What is renal hilum?

The renal hilum is the area on the concave side of the kidney where the renal artery enters and branches into smaller arteries, the renal vein exits, and the ureter exits. It is a crucial structure that connects the kidney to the rest of the urinary system and facilitates the flow of blood and urine to and from the organ. The renal hilum is also responsible for the drainage of excess fluid and waste products from the kidney. Additionally, the renal pelvis, which is the funnel-shaped part of the kidney that collects urine from the kidney tubules, is located at the renal hilum.
